URN:NBN INFORMATION

1 Basic Information

URN:NBN Resolver for Slovakia provides resolving of URN:NBN identifiers with SK subdomain. Resolver returns the basic descriptive data and URLs associated with registered entities. URN:NBN identifier is an unique and persistant identifier assigned to entity provided by partner institutions . Registered entities generally involves authorities, digital objects and cultural objects.

2 URN:NBN Identifiers

According to relevant standards the syntax of URN:NBN identifier consists of "urn:nbn:sk" prefix, subspace used by particular intitution and the unique character string that can be meaningless or partially meaningless. URN:NBN format was originally developed for bibliographic objects but is also used in other related sectors, especially in terms of cultural heritage preserving.

URN:NBN identifiers are assigned to entities that can in certain cases become invalid or deleted (especially authorities). Resolving response in such cases may also return the information about current substitute entity.

3 Registered Entities

URN:NBN:SK identifiers are generally assigned to entities as authorities, digital and cultural objects. According to the entity type the specific set of information is provided. Each entity has specific integrated set of descriptive data including URL and the entity is independed of other entities.

3.1 Authorities

Authorities are verified and representative standardized forms of personal names or corporate names, geographic names, time periods or terms of the special selection language.

3.2 Digital Object

Digital object with assigned URN:NBN identifier is represented by the set of digital abstractions related to corresponding cultural object. Digital abstractions layout is defined by the structural map of the digital object. Resolving response for the identifier assigned to digital object returns the basic descriptive and administrative object data, associated URLs, structural map and METS XML file. Presentation of the digital objects is available on associated URLs and depends on the digital rights status of the particular object.

Associated URLs	List of URLs associated to digital object, e.g. URL of slovakiana.sk record.

3.3 Cultural Object

Cultural object in terms of URN:NBN identification involves natural creations, movable, immovable, substantive, intangible human creations, their artefacts or sets with significant cultural value related to pre-history, history, literature, arts, technics or natural and social science in accordance with applicable legislation (dated to period, provenance, type, exceptionality).
